Tegwyn Saga Release Notes
Version 1.1.2
Map
- Legend now correctly labels the Gnomish homeland as the Sêtsolzi Network
- Switched from golden prairies to greenish grasslands so it doesn't look like the world is covered in deserts
Version 1.1.1
Map
Version 1.1.1 adds a world map download. It features:
- Continent and ocean names
- Region / major country names
- 11 Goblin hatchery locations
- Key showing homelands by race for easy lookup
- Climate coloring, forests, and major cities (with labels for cities mentioned in the book)
- Degree and distance (in miles) labels along the edges, with E-W distance markers near the right edge at several latitudes
- 4k resolution (3840x2560px), with the map itself extending the full width and aobut 2/3 of the height
In the future, we hope to add a separate product listing for a print + even-higher-resolution version.
Version 1.1.0
The 1.1 update reworks the evade rules to make them less confusing, slows down the creature power scaling to give you more time to upgrade equipment, adjusts crafting difficulties and recommended money accordingly, and makes a number of layout changes for the print-on-demand release! (Out now!)
Important rules changes are in bold.
Whole Book
- Adjusted margins so print version doesn't get swallowed by the gutter, where the page curves toward the spine
- Changed look of headers to enable wider margins at the top and bottom so printer variance has a less obvious effect
- Various layout and formatting adjustments and fixes
- Fixed various links that went to the bottom of the 1st column instead of the top of the 2nd column
Intro
- Credits: Updated artist's link, added note about our online tools and downloads, made Discord link friendlier
- Replaced chapter icon
- Clarified references that don't make sense in the print version, such as the "Can I Share..." heading
- Rearranged Character Creation section to put Creation Steps near the end, close to the Example Character Sheet
- Example character sheet step numbers link back to their corresponding creation steps, and the Creation Steps section has a link to the example sheet to make flipping back and forth easy in the digital version
General
- Unarmed mastery begins at d4 and is now a single unit; there is no longer separate unarmed accuracy and unarmed evade
Races
- Races with unarmed mastery bonuses have had those adjusted
- Clarified poor senses rules to make sense for more than just vision
- Fixed inconsistent plurals for Shamas and Yáras
- Changed suggested alternative for Shapeshifter ! click sound from tlo to kl
- Updated cold-blooded (and other places throughout the book) to consistently use "levels" instead of "points" for fatigue
Classes
- Blademaster parry ability now only applies to parrying (not dodging) but has no accuracy penalty
- Psion martial artist ability now gives grappling bonuses instead of boosting unarmed evade
- Cataphract and rider link to Starting Mounts section
Skills
- Increased thresholds for crafting weapons and armor to 10, 15, and 20 for bronze/crude, iron/fine, and steel/exquisite. This is to keep things balanced after reducing the speed with which enemies gain power.
- Crafting: Fixed mistakes in recycling examples
- Crafting modification difficulty for existing items now varies by the item's material or quality
- Crafting balanced and precise mods explicitly apply to weapons that can be both melee and ranged
- Wits poor senses modifier includes amount GM can subtract for long distance (7)
Combat
- Evade rolls now have two options: dodge and parry. This replaces the confusing rules about using unarmed evade in various circumstances while getting the same basic result.
- Added Thrown Spells section under Accuracy and Evade
- Clarified when you can pick pocket instead of using a disarm grapple
Equipment
- Lowered suggested value of money and equipment by level
- Changed recommended equipment quality to bronze/crude at levels 1-3, iron/fine at 4-5, steel/exquisite at 6, and mods at 7+. (The old way was 1-2, 3, 4, 5+.)
- Updated crafting threshold/difficulty notes for various materials
- Adding gems to a spellcasting weapon increases the weapon's value further to account for the increased crafting threshold (like with other modifications)
- Moved all the weapon tables next to each other and put the entire weapon list after them to make it easier to find things
- Added bookmarks for the equipment tables
- Fixed spear tier names in thrown weapons table
- Cross-listed bo-shuriken on the edged weapons table
- Added headers over the weapon list, with corresponding bookmarks, to indicate the first or last item on the page for faster finding
- Condensed equipment list formatting a bit
- Clarified how 2-handed casting works in with spellcasting weapons in their descriptions
- Fixed "main hand" to be consistently "dominant hand" here and elsewhere
Magic
- Clarified that you need to learn a spell's prerequisites first
- Clarified purpose of reaching example for non-difficult spell
Tome
- Updated MP costs and power for destruction spells, making most of them cheaper and a few less powerful
- Added page numbers to spell list for easier look up in print (and digital, but digital can also click the spell names for even easier lookup)
- Fixed several spell links that were going to the bottom of the 1st column when the spell was at the top of the 2nd column. Also fixed sleep link going to the wrong spot.
- Condensed formatting to reduce page flipping/scrolling and page count
- Clarified that light and darken follow the target
- Fixed heal's "damage" calculation to say "healing"
- Clarified that grow weapon is "equivalent to" standard weapons, not just that "its power is equal to" theirs
- Fog is now shapeable, can be ended at will, and lasts 5 minutes
- Reduced base weapon powers for construct elemental and clarified the relationship between its AUR, armor, and defense
- Rephrased ring of fire to make clear that it damages anyone on the ring when it's cast, not just when they walk into it
Creatures
- Slowed down creature power, armor, and range gains as SPL increases (including NPCs). This is so that players don't have to be constantly shopping or crafting to keep up.
- Updated creature template evade values (including mounts), increasing the weapon mastery to match accuracy since unarmed accuracy and evade are no longer split
- Updated creature template experience values
- Added tables for battle experience value per character for various difficulties to each level of creature templates (including NPC templates) for easy reference
- Add wraith extra damage critical split across A attacks because reduced weapon power also reduced the cost of drain abilities
- Added small, clickable, internal table of contents for special ability categories
- Condensed special ability formatting to reduce page flipping/scrolling and page count
- Clarified incorporeal cost and when critical: fatigue actually inflicts fatigue
- Preternatural climber now uses a full move instead of an action
- Updated NPC caster spell power table
- Adjusted NPC caster exp formula
- Added Tome link and reminder that some NPC caster spells only deduct AUR
- Fixed rasterized (blurry) text on Mounts page
Appendices
- Updated character sheet for the new dodge/parry rules
- Updated pre-made characters to match rules updates
- Clarified pre-made character Defense sections: shield is next to dodge, weakness and resistance notes are special (not a kind of shield), and removed blank shield entries
